The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I CALL TO witness the Mount Sinai, 1 And by oath of a passage, written – 2 In a Scroll unfolded; 3 by the much-visited House, 4 and the roof uplifted 5 and by the swelling sea: 6 Lo! the doom of thy Lord will surely come to pass; 7 there is no one who could avert it, 8 On the day when the heaven will heave with (awful) heaving, 9 and the mountains quickly move. 10 Woe, then, on that Day to those who give the lie (to this Message) 11 those who are in plunging, playing. 12 The day they are dragged and pushed into Hell, 13 "This is the fire which you were wont to call a lie! 14 What, is this magic, or is it you that do not see? 15 Go now and burn in it. It is all the same whether you bear it patiently or do not bear it with patience. You are only being recompensed for your deeds.” 16 Verily the God-fearing will be in Gardens and Delight. 17 enjoying what Allah will have endowed them with; and their Lord will have saved them from the torment of the Blazing Fire. 18 They will be told, "Eat and drink to your heart's delight for what you have done". 19 They would recline on couches set in rows, paired with fair companions (clean of thought and) bright of eye. 20 And those who believed, and their seed followed them in belief, We shall join their seed with them, and We shall not defraud them of aught of their work; every man shall be pledged for what he earned. 21 And We shall succour them with fruits and flesh such as they desire 22 They shall pass therein from one to another a cup wherein there shall be nothing vain nor any sin. 23 ۞ and there go round them youths, their own, as if they were hidden pearls. 24 They will go to one another asking each other questions: 25 They will say: “When we were living before among our kinsfolk we lived in constant fear (of Allah's displeasure). 26 Wherefore Allah hath obliged us, and hath protected us from the torment of the Scorch. 27 before this, we used to pray to Him. Surely, He is the Beneficent, the Merciful." 28
