The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
CONSIDER Mount Sinai! 1 and by the Scripture penned 2 On an open record. 3 by the Visited House, 4 And the roof exalted, 5 And by the sea kept filled (or it will be fire kindled on the Day of Resurrection). 6 Verily the torment of thine Lord is sure to befalls 7 There is none that can ward it off. 8 On the day when the heaven will heave with (awful) heaving, 9 And the mountains shall pass away passing away (altogether). 10 Woe, then, will be on that Day to the beliers 11 Who, ignoring the Reality, engage in pleasantries. 12 On the Day when they shall be thrust into Hell with a violent thrust (and shall be told): 13 (And told:) "This is the fire which you denied. 14 What, is this magic, or is it you that do not see? 15 “Enter it now whether you patiently bear it or are impatient it is the same for you; for you is a recompense only for what you used to do.” 16 The pious will live in bountiful Paradise, 17 rejoicing in that their Lord has given them; and their Lord shall guard them against the chastisement of Hell. 18 [They will be told], "Eat and drink in satisfaction for what you used to do." 19 reclining on couches [of happiness] ranged in rows!" And [in that paradise] We shall mate them with companions pure, most beautiful of eye. 20 We shall unite the believers with those descendants of theirs who followed them in their faith, and shall not deny them any part of the reward for their good deeds. Every person is pledged to what he did. 21 We shall provide them in abundance with such fruit and meat as they desire. 22 They shall pass on to one another a cup that will incite neither levity nor sin. 23 ۞ And they will be waited upon by [immortal] youths, [as if they were children] of their own, [as pure] as if they were pearls hidden in their shells. 24 And one of them turned towards the other, questioning. 25 They will say, "Indeed, we were previously among our people fearful [of displeasing Allah]. 26 So Allah conferred favor upon us and protected us from the punishment of the Scorching Fire. 27 we were before ever calling upon Him; surely He is the All-benign, the All-compassionate.' 28
