The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
The Hour has drawn nigh: the moon is split. 1 And if they see a sign, they turn away, and say: "This is continuous magic." 2 They belied (the Verses of Allah, this Quran), and followed their own lusts. And every matter will be settled [according to the kind of deeds (for the doer of good deeds, his deeds will take him to Paradise, and similarly evil deeds will take their doers to Hell)]. 3 Messages deterring them from evil had come to them, 4 far-reaching wisdom [was held out to them]: but [since] all warnings have been of no avail, 5 Therefore, turn away from them. On the Day when the Caller summons them to a terrible thing, 6 With downcast eyes, they come forth from the graves as they were locusts spread abroad, 7 running (with their necks extended) to the Caller. The unbelievers will say: 'This is indeed a harsh Day' 8 ۞ The people of Noah denied [the truth] before them. They belied Our messenger saying, "He is mad!" He was rebuffed, 9 so he cried out to his Lord, saying, "I am overcome, so help me!" 10 We therefore opened the gates of heaven, with water flowing furiously. 11 and made the earth to gush with fountains, and the waters met for a matter decreed. 12 And We bore him upon a well-planked vessel well-caulked 13 Which sailed right under Our eyes: A recompense for him who had been denied. 14 And We have left this as a Sign (for all time): then is there any that will receive admonition? 15 Then see how (dreadful) was My punishment after My warnings! 16 And certainly We have made the Quran easy for remembrance, but is there anyone who will mind? 17 (The tribe of) A'ad rejected warnings. Then how (dreadful) was My punishment after My warnings. 18 Behold, We let loose upon them a raging storm wind on a day of bitter misfortune: 19 it swept the people away as though they were palm-trunks uprooted: 20 How [dreadful] was My punishment and My warning! 21 We have made it easy to learn lessons from the Quran: is there anyone who would receive admonition? 22
