[AND the tribe of] Thamud gave the lie to all [Our] warnings; 23 So they said, “What! Shall we follow a man from among us? If we do, we are indeed astray, and insane!” 24 Why - on him alone from among all of us should a [divine] reminder have been bestowed? Nay, but he is a boastful liar!" 25 "Tomorrow they will know who is the impudent liar! 26 Surely We are going to send the she-camel as a trial for them; therefore watch them and have patience. 27 And tell them that the water [of the well] is to be divided between them, and that each one should drink in turn." 28 But they summoned their [boldest] companion, and he ventured [upon the evil deed,] and cruelly slaughtered [the animal]: 29 How was then My punishment of which they had been warned? 30 Indeed, We sent upon them one blast from the sky, and they became like the dry twig fragments of an [animal] pen. 31 And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember? 32 The people of Lut rejected (his) warning. 33 Indeed, We sent upon them a storm of stones, except the family of Lot - We saved them before dawn 34 as a blessing from Us: this is how We reward the thankful. 35 Lot warned them against Our torment, but they persistently disputed it. 36 And they indeed sought to shame his guest (by asking to commit sodomy with them). So We blinded their eyes, "Then taste you My Torment and My Warnings." 37 And certainly a lasting chastisement overtook them in the morning. 38 Taste then My torment and My warnings. 39 Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 40
