The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls. 1 There is no belying its coming to pass-- 2 abasing, exalting, 3 When the earth is shaken with a shaking [severe,] 4 and the mountains fragmented 5 and become a dust, scattered, 6 You will become three categories: 7 Those on the Right -- how blessed are those on the Right! 8 And those on the left hand; how miserable shall those on the left hand be! 9 And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: 10 These will be those nearest to Allah. 11 in the beautiful Paradise. 12 A large group from the earlier generations. 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 on lavish couches 15 reclining on them, arrayed face to face; 16 Immortal youths will wait upon them 17 With bowls and ewers and a cup from a pure spring 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 And fruit of what they select 20 Bird meats that they relish, 21 And pure, beautiful ones, 22 like the pearls in their shells: 23 As recompense for all they had done. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk nor any sinful speech. 25 but only the tiding of inner soundness and peace. 26 NOW AS FOR those who have attained to righteousness - what of those who have attained to righteousness? 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 And clusters of banana plants. 29 Lengthened shadows, 30 and waters gushing, 31 And fruit abundant. 32 Neither ending nor forbidden. 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, 35 And have made them virgins. 36 loving and of equal age. 37 for those on the Right, 38
