A multitude of those of old 39 and a throng of the later folk. 40 As for the People on the Left: how miserable will be the People on the Left! 41 In hot wind and boiling water, 42 scalding water and under a shadow of black smoke, 43 Nothing (will there be) to refresh, nor to please: 44 They had lived in luxury before this 45 And were stubborn upon the great sin (of disbelief). 46 And they were wont to say: when we have died and become dust and bones, shall we, then, verily be raised? 47 "(We) and our fathers of old?" 48 Say thou: verily the ancients and those of later generations: 49 will be brought together for an appointment on an appointed day. 50 Then you, the erring and the deniers, 51 "Ye will surely taste of the Tree of Zaqqum. 52 And fill (your) bellies with it; 53 Then drink over it of boiling water; 54 Drinking even as the camel drinketh. 55 This shall be their entertainment on the Day of Requital. 56 It is We Who created you, so why do you not accept the truth? 57 So what is your opinion regarding the semen you discharge? 58 Is it you that create it or are We the creators? 59 We have destined death for you and no one can challenge Us 60 From replacing you with others or raising you in a way you do not know. 61 And you have indeed learnt about the first creation, so why do you not ponder? 62 Have you considered what you sow? 63 Do you make it grow or is it We who make it grow? 64 If We willed, We could make it [dry] debris, and you would remain in wonder, 65 (Saying): "We are indeed Mughramun (i.e. ruined or lost the money without any profit, or punished by the loss of all that we spend for cultivation, etc.)! [See Tafsir Al-Qurtubi, Vol. 17, Page 219] 66 Nay, but we are deprived! 67 So what is your opinion regarding the water that you drink? 68 Do ye bring it down (in rain) from the cloud or do We? 69 If We willed, We could make it bitter, so why are you not grateful? 70 So what is your opinion regarding the fire which you kindle? 71 Is it you who produced its tree, or are We the producer? 72 We made it a reminder and a provision for the needy. 73 Then glorify with praises the Name of your Lord, the Most Great. 74
