The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
A questioner asked about a Penalty to befall- 1 The infidels, of which there is no averter. 2 from God, the Lord of the Stairways. 3 by which the angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him in one Day which will last for fifty thousand years. 4 So be thou patient with a sweet patience; 5 Verily they behold it afar off. 6 while We think that it is near at hand. 7 Upon the day when heaven shall be as molten copper 8 The mountains like the tufts of (carded) wool, 9 And friend shall not ask of friend 10 though they shall be within sight of each other. The guilty one will gladly ransom himself from the torment of that Day by sacrificing his own children, 11 And his wife and his brother. 12 and his kinsfolk who had stood by him, 13 And all who are on the earth; so that this might deliver him. 14 No! Indeed, it is the Flame [of Hell], 15 snatching away the scalp, 16 It shall call him who turneth back and backslideth. 17 and amassed (riches) and hoarded. 18 ۞ Lo! man was created anxious, 19 bewailing when evil befalls him, 20 And niggardly when good touches him; 21 Except those devoted to Salat (prayers) 22 [and] who incessantly persevere in their prayer 23 And in whose wealth there is a right acknowledged 24 For those who beg, and for the needy who cannot even ask. 25 who acknowledge the Day of Judgment, 26 And those who are fearful of their Lord's torment 27 for none is secure from the punishment of their Lord, 28 And those who guard their sex except from their wives and women slaves of old 29 [not giving way to their desires] with any but their spouses - that is, those whom they rightfully possess [through wedlock]: for then, behold, they are free of all blame, 30 But those who trespass beyond this are transgressors;- 31 And those who protect the property entrusted to them, and their agreements. 32 And those who stand firm in their testimonies. 33 And those who of their prayer are observant. 34 These it is who in the gardens [of paradise] shall be honoured! 35
