The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
There hath asked an asker for the torment about to befall. 1 Upon the disbelievers, which none can repel, 2 From Allah, the Lord of all pinnacles. 3 The angels and Jibreel, ascend towards Him – the punishment will befall on a day which spans fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore patiently endure, in the best manner (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him). 5 They surely take it to be far away, 6 while We think that it is near at hand. 7 On the day when the heavens become like molten metal. 8 The mountains like the tufts of (carded) wool, 9 And friend shall not ask of friend 10 though they shall be within sight of each other. The guilty one will gladly ransom himself from the torment of that Day by sacrificing his own children, 11 and of his spouse, and of his brother, 12 and of all the kinsfolk who ever sheltered him, 13 And all that are in the earth, so that it might save him. 14 But no! There is a raging blaze 15 Eager to roast; 16 It will summon whoever turns his back and flees, 17 Who amasses and then hoards. 18 ۞ Indeed man is created very impatient, greedy. 19 [As a rule,] whenever misfortune touches him, he is filled with self-pity; 20 And when good touches him, withholding [of it], 21 save those that pray 22 and continue at their prayers, 23 And those in whose riches is a known right. 24 For the beggar and the destitute. 25 And those who believe the Day of Judgement to be true. 26 And those who are fearful of their Lord's torment 27 (from their Lord's chastisement none feels secure) 28 who guard their privates 29 Except from their wives or those their right hands possess, for indeed, they are not to be blamed - 30 but those who go beyond that limit are transgressors; 31 (Those) who keep their trusts and their covenant, 32 and those who are upright in their testimonies; 33 And those who are mindful of their moral obligations. 34 They will be honoured in the Gardens of Bliss. 35
