The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 Arise, and warn. 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 cleanse your clothes, 4 And all abomination shun! 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! 7 When the Trumpet is sounded, 8 That Day will be a difficult day 9 and for the disbelievers, in particular, it will not be at all easy. 10 Leave Me Alone (to deal) with whom I created Alone (without any means, i.e. Al-Walid bin Al-Mughirah Al-Makhzumi)! 11 and to whom I have granted resources vast, 12 and sons ever present with him, 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give him even more! 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 For lo! he did consider; then he planned - 18 Ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he beheld, 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 Then he turned back and was arrogant 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 'this is nothing but mortal speech.' 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 Would that you really knew what hell is! 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 Blackening the skins. 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
