Nay, by the moon, 32 And the night when it departs, 33 And [by] the morning when it brightens, 34 Verily, that [hell-fire] is Indeed one of the great [forewarnings] 35 a warning to humankind, 36 A warning unto him of you who shall go forward or who chooseth to lag behind. 37 Every person is a pledge for what he has earned, 38 Except those of the right hand 39 Sitting in the gardens, asking 40 Concerning the guilty: 41 "What was it that brought you to Hell?" 42 They will say: "We were not of those who used to offer their Salat (prayers) 43 And we used not to feed the poor; 44 and we indulged in vain talk with those who indulged in vain talk, 45 and the Day of Judgment we were wont to call a lie 46 Until there came to us the certainty." 47 Then there will not profit them intercesion of the interceders. 48 If such will be the Day of Judgment, what is the matter with them? Why do they run away from guidance, 49 As if they were affrighted asses, 50 Fleeing away from a lion. 51 Aye! every one of them desireth that: he should be vouchsafed scrolls expanded. 52 No! But they do not fear the Hereafter. 53 Never so, as this is a reminder. 54 So, whoever wills, will remember it. 55 But they will not remember except as God wills: He is worthy to be feared, and He is worthy of forgiving 56
