Resurrection (Al-Qeyaamah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Nay, I swear by the Day of Resurrection; 1 and by the self-reproaching soul! 2 Deemest man that We shall not assemble his bones? 3 We certainly have the power to restore them even the very tips of their finger. 4 Aye! man desireth that he may sin before him. 5 He questions: "When is the Day of Resurrection?" 6 When, then, the sight shall be confounded. 7 And the moon darkens 8 And the sun and moon will be joined together (by going one into the other or folded up or deprived of their light, etc.) 9 On that Day man will say: "Where (is the refuge) to flee?" 10 No indeed; not a refuge! 11 With thy Sustainer, on that Day, the journey's end will be! 12 On that Day the human shall be informed of his former and latter deeds. 13 Indeed, man shall be a witness against himself, 14 even though he might make up excuses. 15 Move not thy tongue with it to hasten it; 16 Surely it is for Us to have you commit it to memory and to recite it. 17 When We recite it, follow its recitation (by Us). 18 And thereafter verily upon us is the expounding thereof. 19 Truly, you love immediate gain 20 And leave alone the Hereafter. 21 Some faces on that Day will be fresh and resplendent, 22 and look forward to receiving mercy from their Lord. 23 Others will be despondent, 24 thou mightest think the Calamity has been wreaked on them. 25 Nay, but when the life cometh up to the throat 26 And it is asked: "Is there any reciter of charms and amulets?" 27 He will then realise it is the parting, 28 And one leg will be joined with another: 29 that will be the time to be driven to one's Lord. 30
