The Human (Al-Insan)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Indeed, there came upon the human a period of time when he was an unremembered thing. 1 Indeed We have created man from mixed semen; in order to test him – We therefore made him hearing, knowing. 2 Indeed, We guided him to the way, be he grateful or be he ungrateful. 3 Verily, We have prepared for the disbelievers iron chains, iron collars, and a blazing Fire. 4 [whereas,] behold, the truly virtuous shall drink from a cup flavoured with the calyx of sweet-smelling flowers: 5 From a fountain whence the bondmen of Allah will drink, causing it to gush abundantly. 6 They fulfil their vows, and fear a day whose evil is upon the wing; 7 and who give food - however great be their own want of it - unto the needy, and the orphan, and the captive, 8 Saying: we feed you only for the sake of Allah; we desire not from you any recompense or thanks. 9 Surely we fear from our Lord a stern, distressful day. 10 Therefore, God will ward off from them the woes of that Day, and make them find brightness and joy, 11 And reward them for their perseverence Paradise and silken robes, 12 Reclining therein upon couches, they will find there neither (heat of) a sun nor bitter cold. 13 And close upon them will be the shades thereof, and low will hang the clusters thereof greatly. 14 Vessels of silver and goblets of pure crystal will be passed round among them 15 Crystal-clear, made of silver: they will determine the measure thereof (according to their wishes). 16 And therein they shall be given to drink a cup whose mixture is ginger, 17 [From] a fountain within Paradise named Salsabeel. 18 ۞ And round about them shall go youths never altering in age; when you see them you will think them to be scattered pearls. 19 When you see them, you see bliss, and a great Kingdom. 20 Upon them shall be green garments of silk and brocade; they are adorned with bracelets of silver, and their Lord shall give them to drink a pure draught. 21 It will be said to them, “This is your reward – indeed your efforts have been appreciated.” 22
