The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ About what are they asking one another? 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 About which they differ? 3 No indeed; soon will they come to know; 4 Verily, verily they shall soon (come to) know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a wide expanse, 6 and the mountains as pegs (to anchor the earth)? 7 And it is We who created you in pairs. 8 And made your sleep for rest, 9 And made the night as clothing 10 And We made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven firmaments, 12 And We made a shining lamp, 13 And We send down from the clouds water pouring forth abundantly, 14 That We may bring forth thereby grain and vegetation 15 And gardens of thick foliage. 16 Verily, the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 The Day when the Trumpet will be blown, and you shall come forth in crowds (groups); 18 and when the sky shall be opened up and will become all doors; 19 And the hills are set in motion and become as a mirage. 20 Certainly Hell lies in wait, 21 for the insolent a resort, 22 therein to tarry for ages, 23 Neither coolness shall they taste therein nor any [thirst-quenching] drink 24 Except hot boiling water and hot pus discharged from the people of hell. 25 An exact recompense (according to their evil crimes). 26 For lo! they looked not for a reckoning; 27 and they absolutely belied Our verses, 28 And all things have We preserved on record. 29 "So taste [the penalty], and never will We increase you except in torment." 30
