The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ About what are they asking one another? 1 (Is it) of the great announcement 2 concerning which they are in disagreement! 3 Indeed they will come to know soon; 4 Then, no! They are going to know. 5 Have We not made the earth a resting place? 6 and the mountains [its] pegs? 7 We created you in pairs, 8 And We made your sleep to be rest (to you), 9 and We made the night a mantle, 10 and the day as time for you to make a living? 11 And We have built above you seven firmaments, 12 and placed in them a blazing lamp 13 and have sent down from the clouds, pouring rain 14 That We may produce from it grain and vegetation, 15 and luxuriant gardens. 16 VERILY, the Day of Distinction [between the true and the false] has indeed its appointed time: 17 On that Day when the trumpet shall be sounded, you shall come in droves, 18 and when the skies are opened and become [as wide-flung] gates; 19 And the mountains will be moved – they will therefore become like mirages. 20 Behold, Gehenna has become an ambush, 21 a goal for all who are wont to transgress the bounds of what is right! 22 They will tarry therein for ages. 23 They will neither taste anything cool in it, nor anything to drink. 24 But boiling and intensely cold water, 25 Recompense fitted! 26 Indeed, they did not hope for a Reckoning, 27 And denied Our verses with [emphatic] denial. 28 However, We have recorded everything in a book. 29 'Taste! We shall not increase you except in punishment' 30
