The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ OF WHAT ARE they asking one another? 1 About the great event, 2 Concerning which they differ. 3 By no means! anon they shall know. 4 They will indeed come to know soon. 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 and the mountains [its] pegs? 7 And We have created you in pairs (male and female, tall and short, good and bad, etc.). 8 And made sleep for you to rest, 9 made the night as a covering, 10 and made the day for earning a livelihood. 11 Have We not made seven strong heavens above you, 12 and We have set therein a glowing lamp. 13 And sent down, from the rain clouds, pouring water 14 to make the seeds, plants, 15 And gardens of thick foliage. 16 Verily the Day of Sorting out is a thing appointed, 17 The Day that the Trumpet shall be sounded, and ye shall come forth in crowds; 18 The heavens will have openings like doors. 19 and the mountains move, and vaporize. 20 Lo! hell lurketh in ambush, 21 The destination of the rebellious. 22 In which they will remain for ages [unending]. 23 They will not taste therein [any] coolness or drink 24 Save a boiling fluid and a fluid, dark, murky, intensely cold, 25 Requital corresponding. 26 They did not expect such a Judgment 27 and they absolutely belied Our verses, 28 but We have recorded everything in a Book. 29 [And so We shall say:] "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
