Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ I do call to witness this City;- 1 And you are free (from sin, to punish the enemies of Islam on the Day of the conquest) in this city (Makkah). 2 and by parent and offspring, 3 that We have created the human being to face a great deal of hardship. 4 Does He think that no one will ever have control over him? 5 He shall say: I have wasted much wealth. 6 Does he then think that no one sees him? 7 Did We not give him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and a pair of lips? 9 and shown him the two paths? 10 Yet, he has not entered into Aqaba 11 Would that you knew what Aqaba is! 12 It is freeing the neck, 13 Or the feeding on a day of hunger. 14 an orphaned relative 15 or to a needy person in distress; 16 And to be of those who believe and exhort one another to perseverance and exhort one another to pity. 17 These are the people of the right hand. 18 But those who disbelieve in Our verses, they are the Companions of the Left, 19 with the Fire closed above them. 20
