The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night when it covers the day, 1 And by the day as it appears in brightness; 2 And Him who created the male and female, 3 Verily, [O men,] you aim at most divergent ends! 4 As for him who gives (in charity) and keeps his duty to Allah and fears Him, 5 And believed the best matter to be true 6 We shall surely ease him to the Easing. 7 But for those who are niggardly, horde their wealth, 8 and cries lies to the reward most fair, 9 We shall pave his way to hardship, 10 And his wealth will not avail him when he perishes. 11 Truly! Ours it is (to give) guidance, 12 and to Us belongs the Hereafter as well as the present world -- 13 I have warned you then about a raging Fire: 14 none shall enter it but the most wicked, 15 who rejected the Truth, calling it falsehood and turned his back on it. 16 But save him who fears 17 He who spends his wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 And none hath with him any favour for reward, 19 But only the desire to seek for the Countenance of their Lord Most High; 20 And he shall soon be well-pleased. 21
