The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the night, when it envelops, 1 And by oath of the day when it shines 2 And by Him Who created male and female; 3 Certainly, your efforts and deeds are diverse (different in aims and purposes); 4 For him that gives and fears (Allah) 5 for those who spend for the cause of God, 6 We shall surely ease him to the Easing. 7 But as for one who is miserly and unheeding, 8 And denied the best matter, 9 We will facilitate for him the difficult end. 10 And his riches will not avail him when he falls headlong (into the Abyss). 11 Indeed, Guidance is Ours, 12 And indeed, to Us belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 13 Therefore I have warned you of a Fire blazing fiercely (Hell); 14 where none shall burn except the most wicked, 15 who rejected the Truth, calling it falsehood and turned his back on it. 16 And away from it shall be kept the one who guards most (against evil), 17 [He] who gives [from] his wealth to purify himself 18 And have in his mind no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 Except the seeking of the pleasure of his Lord, the Most High. 20 and he shall surely be satisfied. 21
