The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Recite in the name of your Lord who created - 1 created man out of a germ-cell 2 Recite, and your Lord is the most Generous - 3 Who taught by the pen, 4 Taught man what he knew not. 5 And yet, but yet man is rebellious, 6 Because he sees himself free from want. 7 Indeed, to your Lord is the return. 8 Have you seen him who restrains 9 a servant [of God] from praying? 10 What will happen if the praying person is rightly guided 11 Or he commandeth piety? 12 Bethinkest thou, if he belieth and turneth away? 13 Does he not know that Allah sees? 14 Yes certainly, if he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock. 15 By the lying, the sinful forelock. 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 We too shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 No indeed; do thou not obey him, and bow thyself, and draw nigh. ۩ 19
