O children of Israel! call to mind My favor which I bestowed on you and that I made you excel the nations. 47 and remain conscious of [the coming of] a Day when no human being shall in the least avail another, nor shall intercession be accepted from any of them, nor ransom taken from them, and none shall be succoured. 48 (And remember) When We rescued you from Firaun’s people, for they were inflicting you with a dreadful torment, slaying your sons and sparing your daughters; that was a tremendous trial from your Lord (or a great reward). 49 And when We parted the sea for you, so We saved you and drowned the followers of Firon and you watched by. 50 And when We appointed with Moses forty nights then you took to yourselves the Calf after him and you were evildoers; 51 Then We forgave you after that so perhaps you would be grateful. 52 And when We gave to Moses the Book and the Salvation, that haply you should be guided. 53 And remember Moses said to his people: "O my people! Ye have indeed wronged yourselves by your worship of the calf: So turn (in repentance) to your Maker, and slay yourselves (the wrong-doers); that will be better for you in the sight of your Maker." Then He turned towards you (in forgiveness): For He is Oft-Returning, Most Merciful. 54 And recall what time ye said: O Musa! we will not believe in thee until we see God openly; then a thunderbolt took hold of you while ye looked on. 55 Then We raised you after your death that haply ye may return thanks. 56 And made the cloud spread shade over you, and sent for you manna and quails that you may eat of the good things We have made for you. No harm was done to Us, they only harmed themselves. 57 And when We said: Go into this township and eat freely of that which is therein, and enter the gate prostrate, and say: "Repentance." We will forgive you your sins and will increase (reward) for the right-doers. 58 But the wrongdoers changed the words to something other than what they had been told. So We sent down upon the transgressors a punishment from heaven, because they were disobedient. 59
