We created man out of dry clay, from moulded mud, 26 And the Jinn race, We had created before, from the fire of a scorching wind. 27 And (remember) when your Lord said to the angels: "I am going to create a man (Adam) from sounding clay of altered black smooth mud. 28 When I have shaped him and ran My created soul in him fall down prostrating towards him'. 29 So the angels fell prostrate, all of them together 30 But Satan did not; he refused to join those who prostrated themselves. 31 (Allah) said: "O Iblis (Satan)! What is your reason for not being among the prostrators?" 32 [Iblis (Satan)] said: "I am not the one to prostrate myself to a human being, whom You created from sounding clay of altered black smooth mud." 33 Allah said: then get thee forth therefrom; verily thou art one damned. 34 Upon thee shall rest the curse, till the Day of Doom.' 35 Said [Iblis]: "Then, O my Sustainer, grant me a respite till the Day when all shall be raised from the dead!" 36 (Allah) said: "Respite is granted thee 37 till the appointed time. 38 He said, “My Lord! I swear by the fact that You sent me astray, I shall distract them in the earth, and I shall lead all of them astray.” 39 excepting those Thy servants among them that are devoted. 40 (Allah) said: "This is the Way which will lead straight to Me." 41 No power shall you have over (all) My creatures except those who fall into error and follow you, 42 Surely Hell is the promised place for all of them." 43 It hath seven gates, and each gate hath an appointed portion. 44
