Mary (Maryam)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
KaafHaYa'aeenSaad. 1 This is the story of the blessing of your Lord to His servant Zachariah. 2 When he called upon his Lord in a low voice, 3 He submitted, “O my Lord – my bones have become weak and old age shines forth from my head, and O my Lord, I have never been disappointed in my prayer to you.” 4 “And I fear my relatives after me and my wife is barren therefore bestow upon me from Yourself one who will take up my work.” 5 who will be my heir and an heir to the House of Jacob, and make him, my Lord, satisfied' 6 (He was told): "Zechariah, We bring you the good news of the birth of a son whose name shall be Yahya (John), one whose namesake We never created before." 7 He submitted, “My Lord – how can I have a son whereas my wife is barren and I have reached infirmity due to old age?” 8 (The angel) answered: "Thus will it be. Your Lord said: 'This is easy for Me; for when I brought you into being you were nothing.' 9 He (Zachariah) said: 'Lord, make for me a sign' He replied: 'Your sign is that you shall not speak to people for three nights being without fault' 10 So he went forth to his people from his place of worship, then he made known to them that they should glorify (Allah) morning and evening. 11 (To his son came the command): "O Yahya! take hold of the Book with might": and We gave him Wisdom even as a youth, 12 and We also endowed him with tenderness and purity, and he was exceedingly pious 13 And duteous unto his parents, and was not high-handed rebel. 14 So peace on him the day he was born, the day he will die, and the day that he will be raised from the dead. 15
