۞ And indeed We bestowed Ibrahim with guidance from the beginning, and We were Aware of him. 51 When he said to his father and his people: "What are these idols to which you cling so passionately?" 52 They said, "We found our fathers worshippers of them." 53 He said: "Indeed you and your fathers have been in manifest error." 54 They said: 'Is it the truth you have brought us, or are you one of those that play' 55 He said: Nay, but your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, Who created them; and I am of those who testify unto that. 56 By the Lord, I will devise a plan against your deities after you have gone away and turned your backs!" 57 He shattered them all, except the biggest among them, that perhaps they may question it. 58 They asked (on return): "Who has done this to our gods? He is surely a mischief-monger." 59 Some among them said, “We heard a youth speak ill of them – the one called Ibrahim.” 60 Said they: Then bring him before the eyes of the people, perhaps they may bear witness. 61 They said: "Are you the one who has done this to our gods, O Ibrahim (Abraham)?" 62 He said, 'No; it was this great one of them that did it. Question them; if they are able to speak!' 63 Then they thought and observed: "Surely you are yourselves unjust." 64 Thereafter they were made to turn over upon their heads, saying, assuredly thou knowest that they speak not. 65 He said: Worship ye then instead of Allah that which cannot profit you at all, nor harm you? 66 Fie on you and those you worship besides God! Will you not understand?" 67 They said, 'Burn him, and help your gods, if you would do aught.' 68 We said, 'O fire, be coolness and safety for Abraham!' 69 And they wished to set a snare for him, but We made them the greater losers. 70 for We saved him and Lot, [his brother's son, by guiding them] to the land which We have blessed for all times to come. 71 We granted him Isaac and Jacob as a gift and helped both of them to become righteous people. 72 And We made them leaders who guide by Our command, and We sent them the divine revelation to do good deeds and to keep the prayer established and to give charity; and they used to worship Us. 73 To Lot We gave wisdom and knowledge and delivered him from the city which practiced abomination. They were indeed a wicked people. 74 We encompassed him in Our mercy; he was a righteous man. 75
