The Ad gave the lie to the Messengers. 123 Their brother Hud said to them, "Will you not fear God? 124 Behold, I am an apostle [sent by Him] to you, [and therefore] worthy of your trust: 125 So keep your duty to Allah and obey me. 126 For this I ask of you no wage, for my wage falls only on the Lord of the Worlds. 127 "Will you, in your wanton folly, build [idolatrous] altars on every height, 128 Erect palaces (thinking) that you will live for ever, 129 And will you [always,] whenever you lay hand [on others,] lay hand [on them] cruelly, without any restraint? 130 So fear Allah, and obey me. 131 “Fear Him Who has aided you with the things you know.” 132 Hath aided you with cattle and sons. 133 And gardens and springs. 134 Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a dreadful Day' 135 They replied: "It is all the same for us whether you admonish us or not. 136 this is nothing but the habit of the ancients, 137 We will not be subjected to any chastisement." 138 So they rejected him; and We destroyed them. There is certainly a sign in that; but most of them would not believe. 139 And verily! Your Lord, He is indeed the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful. 140
