The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the star when it goes down, (or vanishes). 1 Your comrade erreth not, nor is deceived; 2 And he speaketh not of his own desire. 3 It is a revelations which has been revealed to him 4 taught by One who is Stern in power. 5 One strong of make. Then he stood straight. 6 And he is in the highest part of the horizon. 7 Then he approached and descended 8 And was at a distance of two bows' length or (even) nearer, 9 And he revealed to His Servant what he revealed. 10 The heart lied not in that which he saw. 11 What, will you dispute with him about what he sees! 12 And indeed, he saw him a second time 13 At the farthest lote-tree; 14 Close to which is the Garden of Tranquility, 15 When there covered the Lote Tree that which covered [it]. 16 His sight did not waver nor was it unduly bold. 17 He certainly saw the greatest (signs) of the existence of his Lord. 18 (Among the idols) have you considered allat and al'uzza, 19 and the third one, Manat? -- 20 Why - for yourselves [you would choose only] male offspring, whereas to Him [you assign] female: 21 That is indeed an unfair division! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath revealed no warrant. They follow but a guess and that which (they) themselves desire. And now the guidance from their Lord hath come unto them. 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 To Allah belongs the Eternal life and the first life. 25
