The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Cloaked one, 1 arise and give warning! 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 and purify your robes, 4 And all defilement shun! 5 do not bestow a favour in the expectation of receiving more in return; 6 be patient unto your Lord. 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, 9 For the unbelievers, anything but easy. 10 Leave him to Me, the one whom I created single. 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 And for whom I smoothed everything. 14 and who still greedily desires that I should bestow upon him more. 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 So let him be cursed! How he plotted! 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 Then he looked around, 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 and said: “This (Qur'an) is merely a sorcery of yore; 24 'this is nothing but mortal speech.' 25 I will drive him into Saqar. 26 What will let you know what the Scorching is like! 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 it scorches the skin; 29 Over it are appointed nineteen. 30 We have appointed none but angels to guard the Fire, and made their number only as a trial for the unbelievers, so that those to whom the Book was given are certain and those who believe increase in belief. And that those who were given the Book, and those who believe will not be in doubt. And that those in whose hearts there is a sickness, together with the unbelievers, may say: 'What did Allah intend by this as an example' As such, Allah leaves in error whom He will and He guides whomsoever He will. None knows the hosts of your Lord except He. This is no more than a Reminder to humans. 31
