The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! 1 Arise and warn! 2 And thine Lord magnify! 3 purify your garments; 4 And all defilement shun! 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! 7 Then, when the Trumpet is sounded (i.e. its second blowing); 8 So that is a tough day. 9 Far from easy for the disbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 and sons ever present with him, 13 And made things easy for them. 14 and who still desires more. 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 Verily, he thought and plotted; 18 So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 He looked (at others); 21 And frowned and puckered his brow, 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 And said, “This is nothing but magic learnt from earlier men.” 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 Blackening the skins. 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
