The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 Arise and warn, 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 And keep your clothes clean. 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 And bestow not favour that thou mayest receive more. 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 That Day will be a difficult day 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Leave to Me the one, whom I have created all by Myself, 11 And gave him vast wealth. 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: 14 and who still greedily desires that I should bestow upon him more. 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 He planned and plotted. 18 death seize him, how he determined! 19 Again, may he be cursed how he plotted; 20 May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, 21 then he frowned and scowled, 22 and he turned his back and behaved arrogantly 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 this is nothing but the word of a mere mortal!” 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 and what will teach thee what is Sakar? 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 It glows and burns the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen. 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
