The Human (Al-Insan)
31 verses, revealed in Medina after The All Compassionate (Al-Rahman) before Divorce (Al-Talaaq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Was there not a period of time when man was nothing worth mentioning? 1 Verily We created man out of a drop of intermingled sperm so that We might try him, and We therefore endowed him with hearing and sight. 2 We showed him the right path whether he would be grateful or ungrateful. 3 Indeed, We have prepared for the disbelievers chains and shackles and a blaze. 4 Surely the righteous shall drink of a cup the admixture of which is camphor 5 a spring from which God's servants will drink, making it gush forth in branches. 6 They (are those who) fulfill (their) vows, and they fear a Day whose evil will be wide-spreading. 7 who give food, for the love of Him to the needy, the orphan, and the captive, 8 [Saying], "We feed you only for the countenance of Allah. We wish not from you reward or gratitude. 9 for we fear from our Lord a frowning day, inauspicious. 10 And so, God will preserve them from the woes of that Day, and will bestow on them brightness and joy, 11 And gave them Paradise and silk clothes, as a reward for their patience. 12 Reclining in it, upon thrones; they will not see the hot sunshine in it, nor the bitter cold. 13 And its shade will cover them, and its fruit clusters brought down low for them. 14 And there will be circulated among them vessels of silver and cups having been [created] clear [as glass], 15 Godblets of silver, they shall have filled them to exact measure. 16 And they shall be made to drink therein a cup the admixture of which shall be ginger, 17 from a flowing spring called Salsabil. 18 ۞ There wait on them immortal youths, whom, when thou seest, thou wouldst take for scattered pearls. 19 and when thou seest [anything that is] there thou wilt see [only] bliss and a realm transcendent 20 They [i.e., the virtuous] shall be attired in garments of fine green silk and rich brocade and will be adorned with bracelets of silver. Their Lord will give them a pure wine to drink. 21 Behold, this is a recompense for you, and your striving is thanked.' 22
