He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 you attend to him, 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
