The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ When the Event will come to pass 1 there is no denying its coming 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 When the earth is violently shaken 4 and the mountains will crumble 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 Then (as to) the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 8 And those on the left hand; how miserable shall those on the left hand be! 9 And the foremost are the foremost, 10 those are they brought nigh the Throne, 11 in the Gardens of Bliss. 12 A numerous company from among the first, 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 On couches wrought of gold, 15 reclining on them, arrayed face to face; 16 Round about them shall go youths never altering in age, 17 Carrying bowls and pitchers – and cups filled with wine flowing before them. 18 which will not cause them any intoxication or illness. 19 along with fruits of their choice; 20 And with flesh of fowls from that which they desire. 21 and wide-eyed houris 22 The like of the hidden pearls: 23 a recompense for that they laboured. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 but only the tiding of inner soundness and peace. 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 They shall be in the midst of thornless lote trees, 28 Among Talh trees with flowers (or fruits) piled one above another,- 29 and extended shade, 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit in plenty 32 That will neither finish, nor ever be stopped. 33 And raised couches; 34 Indeed We formed them (the houris and all believing women), 35 And made them virginal, 36 Lovers, friends, 37 For the Companions of the Right Hand. 38
