The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
CONSIDER the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 And the day when it shines in all its glory, 2 By (the mystery of) the creation of male and female;- 3 Indeed, your efforts are diverse. 4 As for he who gives and fears Allah 5 for those who spend for the cause of God, 6 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Bliss. 7 But he who does not give and is unconcerned, 8 And denies the best [reward], 9 Unto him therefore We shall Indeed make easy the path to hardship. 10 And what will his wealth avail him when he falls? 11 Indeed, Guidance is Ours, 12 And lo! unto Us belong the latter portion and the former. 13 Therefore I warn you of the fire that flames: 14 whereat none but the most wretched shall be roasted, 15 who denied [the truth], and turned away. 16 and from which the cautious shall be distanced. 17 one who gives his wealth to become purified, 18 and confers no favour on any man for recompense, 19 Other than seeking the glory of his Lord, most high, 20 surely, he shall be satisfied. 21
