Relate the news of Abraham to them. 69 When he asked his father and his people: "What do you worship?" 70 They said: we worship idols, and we are unto them ever devoted 71 Said he: "Do [you really think that] they hear you when you invoke them, 72 or do they profit you, or harm?' 73 They said, "But we found our fathers doing thus." 74 He said, 'And have you considered what you have been serving, 75 Ye and your fathers of old? 76 are my enemies? Not so the Lord of the Universe. 77 Who created me, and He doth guide me, 78 And it is He who feeds me and gives me drink. 79 And when I am sick, then He restores me to health 80 And He Who will cause me to die, then give me life; 81 and whom I am eager shall forgive me my sins on the Day of Recompense' 82 “My Lord, bestow me the command and join me with those who deserve your proximity.” 83 “And give me proper fame among the succeeding generations.” 84 And put me among the inheritors of Paradise. 85 “And forgive my father* – he is indeed astray.” (His paternal uncle) 86 And do not disgrace me on the day when they are raised from the graves, 87 the Day when wealth and sons will be of no avail, 88 “Except he who presented himself before Allah, with a sound* heart.” (Intact or unblemished.) 89 Paradise will be brought near those who take heed for themselves and follow the straight path; 90 And the (Hell) Fire will be placed in full view of the erring. 91 and they will be asked: "Where now is all that you were wont to worship 92 Other than Allah? Can they help you or help themselves?" 93 The idol worshippers, the idols, the rebellious ones, 94 and the hosts of Iblis, all together. 95 "They will say there in their mutual bickerings: 96 'By Allah, we were certainly in clear error, 97 “When we considered you equal to the Lord Of The Creation.” 98 It is none but those steeped in guilt who led us into this error, 99 So we have no intercessors, 100 Nor any loving friend. 101 If we could only return to the world and be among the believers." 102 Verily there is a sign in this, but many of them do not believe. 103 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 104
