The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the inevitable event takes place, 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 It will bring low (some); (and others) it will exalt; 3 When the earth is shaken with convulsion 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 So those on the Right Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Records in their right hands), Who will be those on the Right Hand? (As a respect for them, because they will enter Paradise). 8 Those on the Left -- how unlucky are those on the Left! 9 And the Outstrippers, the Outstrippers 10 They shall be the nearest to God. 11 In Gardens of Delight. 12 A [large] company of the former peoples 13 And a few of those of later time. 14 (They will be) on thrones woven with gold and precious stones, 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 Immortal youths will wait upon them 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 And fruits that they may like. 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire to eat; 21 And [with them will be their] companions pure, most beautiful of eye, 22 Like unto hidden pearls, 23 A recompense for that which they have been working. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 But only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace)! 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 Midst lote-trees thornless. 28 And clusters of banana plants. 29 and amid the extended shade 30 and waters gushing, 31 And abundant fruit, 32 never-failing and never out of reach. 33 And couches raised up. 34 Verily, We have created them (maidens) of special creation. 35 And made them virgins, 36 loving and of equal age. 37 For those of the right hand. 38
