The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ Alif, Lam, Ra. These are the verses of the Book and a clear Qur'an. 1 And it will come to pass that those who are [now] bent on denying this truth will wish that they had surrendered themselves to God [in their life time]. 2 leave them to eat, and to take their joy, and to be bemused by hope; certainly they will soon know! 3 Never a city have We destroyed, but it had a known decree, 4 Neither can a people anticipate its term, nor delay it. 5 And they say: O thou unto whom the admonition hath been sent down! verily thou art possessed. 6 Why bringest thou not angels unto us if thou art of the truthtellers! 7 We send not down the angels, save with truth; 8 We have, without doubt, sent down the Message; and We will assuredly guard it (from corruption). 9 And We had certainly sent [messengers] before you, [O Muhammad], among the sects of the former peoples. 10 And never came there unto them a messenger but they did mock him. 11 Even so We make a way for it (that is, the Admonition) in the hearts of the culprits (like a hot rod); 12 they do not believe in it. This has been the wont of people of this kind from ancient times. 13 And if We open for them a gate in the heavens, to ascend it through the day – 14 They will say all the same: "Our eyes were dazed (and clouded over). We were a people ensorcelled." 15
