When the messengers came to the family of Lot, 61 he said: "Behold, you are people unknown [here]!" 62 They answered: "Nay, but we have come unto thee with [the announcement of] something that they [who are given to evil] have always been wont to call in question, 63 And bring thee the Truth, and lo! we are truth-tellers. 64 "Therefore journey with your household while a portion of the night remains, and you tread behind them - and none of you may turn around and see, and proceed directly to the place you are commanded to." 65 And We revealed to him this decree, that the roots of these shall be cut off in the morning. 66 And the people of the city came [unto Lot,] rejoicing at the glad tiding. 67 He said: 'These are my guests; do not shame me. 68 "And fear Allah and disgrace me not." 69 They replied, "Did we not forbid you to bring anyone to your house?" 70 He said: Here are my daughters, if ye must be doing (so). 71 By your life, [O Muhammad], indeed they were, in their intoxication, wandering blindly. 72 So the shriek seized them at sunrise. 73 And We made the upside there of downwards, and We rained on them stones of baked clay. 74 Verily therein are signs for men of sagacity. 75 Indeed, it is on a way which still exists. 76 Verily in that is a sign for the believers. 77 Certainly the dwellers in the Thicket were evildoers, 78 So We punished them too. They are both situated by the highway, clearly visible. 79
