If affliction befalls you, it is what your own hands have earned, but He pardons a lot. 30 you cannot escape Him anywhere on earth. You have no protector or helper other than God. 31 And of His signs are the ships in the sea like landmarks. 32 if He so wills, He stills the wind, and then they lie motionless on the sea's surface - [and] herein, behold, there are messages indeed for all who are wholly patient in adversity and deeply grateful [to God]; 33 Or He may make them founder for what they have earned, and (even then) pardon most; 34 and that those who dispute concerning Our signs may know they have no asylum. 35 So whatever you have been given is but a passing enjoyment for this worldly life, but that which is with Allah (Paradise) is better and more lasting for those who believe (in the Oneness of Allah Islamic Monotheism) and put their trust in their Lord (concerning all of their affairs). 36 And those who shun the worst of sins and indecencies and, when they are wroth, forgive, 37 who respond to their Lord and attend to their prayers; who conduct their affairs by mutual consultation and spend out of what We have provided for them; 38 who, when a wrong is done to them, seek its redress. 39 The guerdon of an ill-deed is an ill the like thereof. But whosoever pardoneth and amendeth, his wage is the affair of Allah. Lo! He loveth not wrong-doers. 40 Those who defend themselves after they have been wronged cannot be held blameworthy, 41 The blame is only against those who oppress men and wrong-doing and insolently transgress beyond bounds through the land, defying right and justice: for such there will be a penalty grievous. 42 Surely, he who bears patiently and forgives indeed that is true constancy. 43
