The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 Arise and deliver thy warning! 2 proclaim the greatness of your Lord, 3 purify your garments; 4 and defilement flee! 5 and do not think that by doing such deeds, you have done a great favor to God. 6 And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 For when the trumpet blows 8 that shall be a Harsh Day 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 Leave him to Me whom I created alone, 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 and children living in his presence, 13 And made (life) smooth for him. 14 Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);- 15 Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). 16 We shall make him suffer the torment of hell without relief. 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 death seize him, how he determined! 19 Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!- 20 He then dared to lift his gaze. 21 then frowned and scowled; 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 Then he said: This is naught but enchantment, narrated (from others); 24 this is nothing but the word of a mere mortal!” 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It shall not spare, nor leave. 28 it scorches the skin; 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
