He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 you attend to him, 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 noble and pious. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 and dense orchards, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 but others will be gloomy 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
