He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 For him who does not care, 5 you attended to him, 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and herbage 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
