The Sun (Al-Shams)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I CALL TO witness the sun and his early morning splendour, 1 and by the moon as it follows it; 2 by the day when it brightens the earth, 3 And [by] the night when it covers it 4 by the heavens and that (Power) which established them, 5 By the earth and Him Who spread it forth, 6 The soul and how it was integrated 7 and inspired it with its sin and its piety, 8 prosperous is he who purified it, 9 and failed has he who seduces it. 10 Thamud denied [their prophet] by reason of their transgression, 11 When among them the great wretch arose, 12 The Messenger of God told them, "This is a she-camel, belonging to God. Do not deprive her of her share of water". 13 But they rejected his statement as a lie and hamstrung the she-camel. For that crime their Lord rumbled down upon them, utterly razing them to the ground. 14 And He does not fear its coming behind (to take vengeance). 15
