The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the night as it envelops; 1 And [by] the day when it appears 2 By Him Who hath created the male and the female, 3 your striving is indeed to different ends! 4 As for he who gives and fears Allah 5 And believeth in goodness; 6 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Bliss. 7 But as for him who is a miser, and self-sufficient, 8 And rejects goodness, 9 We will make smooth for him the path for evil; 10 and his wealth shall be of no avail to him when he perishes. 11 Verify on us is the guidance 12 And verily unto Us (belong) the End and the Beginning. 13 So, I warn you of the blazing Fire. 14 None shall enter it save the most wretched, 15 Who gives the lie (to the truth) and turns (his) back. 16 Far removed from it will be the righteous 17 who spend for the cause of God and purify themselves. 18 And who hath no favour from anyone to recompense. 19 But only the desire to seek for the Countenance of their Lord Most High; 20 and such, indeed, shall in time be well-pleased. 21
