The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Read with the name of your Lord Who created, 1 created Man of a blood-clot. 2 Read, for your Lord is most beneficent, 3 Who teacheth by the pen, 4 Has taught man that which he knew not. 5 Nay, but verily man is rebellious 6 As he considers himself independent! 7 Surely to your Lord is your return. 8 What is your opinion – regarding him who forbids – 9 A slave when he prayeth? 10 Did you consider: what if he is on the Right Way, 11 Or enjoins Righteousness? 12 Have you considered if he gives the lie to the truth and turns (his) back? 13 Does he not know that Allah sees? 14 No! If he does not desist, We will surely drag him by the forelock - 15 A forelock that lies, is sinful. 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 We shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 By no means! Obey not thou him. Continue to adore, and continue to draw nigh. ۩ 19
