The great ones among Pharaoh's people said: "Verily, this is indeed a sorcerer of great knowledge, 109 "He wants to get you out of your land, so what do you advise?" 110 They said: put him and his brother off, and send unto the cities callers. 111 to bring thee every cunning sorcerer.' 112 The magicians came to the Pharaoh and said: "Is there reward for us if we succeed?" 113 He said, "Yes, and, [moreover], you will be among those made near [to me]." 114 They said, “O Moosa! You may throw first – or shall we be the first to throw?” 115 He said, 'You cast.' And when they cast they put a Spell upon the people's eyes, and called forth fear of them, and produced a mighty sorcery. 116 And We inspired to Moses, "Throw your staff," and at once it devoured what they were falsifying. 117 ۞ whereupon the truth was established, and vain was proved all that they had been doing. 118 they were defeated and turned belittled, 119 And down fell the sorcerers, prostrating themselves 120 and said, "We believe in the Lord of the Universe, 121 The Lord of Moses and Aaron. 122 Said Pharaoh: "Have you come to believe in him ere I have given you permission? Behold, this is indeed a plot which you have cunningly devised in this [my] city in order to drive out its people hence! But in time you shall come to know, [my revenge]: 123 I shall cut off your hands and feet on the opposite sides, and then crucify you all.' 124 They said, "Indeed, to our Lord we will return. 125 Will you punish us just because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us? Our Lord! Shower us with perseverance and cause us to die as those who have submitted [to You].' 126
