Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ I CALL THIS earth to witness -- 1 And thou shalt be allowed in yonder city 2 And by oath of your forefather Ibrahim, and by you – his illustrious son! 3 We verily have created man in an atmosphere: 4 Does he think that no one can overpower him? 5 He shall say: I have wasted much wealth. 6 Thinketh he that none beholdeth him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 and a tongue, and a pair of lips, 9 and shown him the two paths? 10 Yet, he has not entered into Aqaba 11 What could let you know what the height is! 12 (It is:) freeing the bondman; 13 And to feed in the day of hunger. 14 The orphan near in relationship, 15 Or some poor wretch in misery, 16 And to be of those who believe and exhort one another to perseverance and exhort one another to pity. 17 Such are they that have attained to righteousness; 18 But those who reject Our Signs, they are the (unhappy) Companions of the Left Hand. 19 The Fire will be shut over them (i.e. they will be enveloped by the Fire without any opening or window or outlet. 20
True are the words of God the Almighty.
