The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By oath of the night when it covers 1 and by the day as it appears radiantly, 2 And by Who created the male and female, 3 Lo! your effort is dispersed (toward divers ends). 4 So he who gives (in charity) and fears (Allah), 5 and believes in the truth of the ultimate good 6 We will make smooth for him the path of ease (goodness). 7 But he who does not give and is unconcerned, 8 And disbelieveth in goodness; 9 We shall facilitate for him the way to Hardship, 10 When he falls (into Hell), his wealth will not help him. 11 Indeed, Guidance is Ours, 12 And most surely Ours is the hereafter and the former. 13 I therefore warn you of the fire that is ablaze. 14 whereat none but the most wretched shall be roasted, 15 Who gives the lie (to the truth) and turns (his) back. 16 But the righteous one will avoid it - 17 And gives of his wealth that he may grow in virtue, 18 and confers no favor upon anyone for recompense 19 Except the seeking of the pleasure of his Lord, the Most High. 20 And he shall soon be well-pleased. 21
