The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 Arise and warn! 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 Purify your inner self, 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 And give not a thing in order to have more (or consider not your deeds of Allah's obedience as a favour to Allah). 6 and persevere for your Lord's sake. 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 Far from easy for those without Faith. 10 Leave him to Me whom I created alone, 11 and to whom I have granted resources vast, 12 And sons to be by his side!- 13 and made all things smooth for him; 14 and who still greedily desires that I should bestow upon him more. 15 By no means! Verily he hath been unto Our signs a foe. 16 Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities! 17 Indeed he thought, and inwardly decided. 18 Ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 19 What an evil plan he has made! 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 then frowned and scowled; 22 then he retreated and waxed proud, 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It shall not spare, nor leave. 28 It shrivelleth the man. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
