Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Have you heard the story of the overwhelming event (the Day of Judgment)? 1 On that day (many) faces will be downcast, 2 laboring, wornout, 3 they shall enter a burning Fire 4 Given water from the boiling spring to drink. 5 No food for them save bitter thorn-fruit 6 Which will neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 (Other) faces on that day shall be happy, 8 with their striving well-pleased, 9 They will be in a lofty Garden 10 In which they will not hear any lewd speech. 11 Therein is a fountain flowing, 12 therein uplifted couches 13 and goblets set at hand, 14 And cushions lined up 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 And how the heaven was raised up, 18 And the mountains: how they were fixed? 19 And at the earth, how it is spread out? 20 Therefore do thou give admonition, for thou art one to admonish. 21 You are not at all a guardian over them. 22 But if any turn away and reject Allah,- 23 So Allah will mete out to him the greatest punishment. 24 Verily, to Us will be their return; 25 Then indeed only upon Us is their reckoning. 26
