Whatever misfortune befalls you is of your own doing, God forgives much, 30 Ye cannot escape in the earth, for beside Allah ye have no protecting friend nor any helper. 31 Among His signs are the ships sailing like mountains on the sea: 32 If He pleases, He causes the wind to become still so that they lie motionless on its back; most surely there are signs in this for every patient, grateful one, 33 He may, while forgiving much of the sins of those that ride these ships, drown them on account of some of their misdeeds. 34 He knows all those who dispute His revelations. They will find no way to escape from (His torment). 35 That which you have been given is but the enjoyment of the present life. Better and more enduring is that which Allah has for those who believe and put their trust in their Lord. 36 Those who avoid the greater crimes and shameful deeds, and, when they are angry even then forgive; 37 and who respond to [the call of] their Sustainer and are constant in prayer; and whose rule [in all matters of common concern] is consultation among themselves; and who spend on others out of what We provide for them as sustenance; 38 and who, when insolence visits them, do help themselves -- 39 The recompense for an evil is an evil like thereof, but whoever forgives and makes reconciliation, his reward is due from Allah. Verily, He likes not the Zalimun (oppressors, polytheists, and wrong-doers, etc.). 40 Yet indeed, as for any who defend themselves after having been wronged - no blame whatever attaches to them: 41 blame attaches but to those who oppress [other] people and behave outrageously on earth, offending against all right: for them there is grievous suffering in store! 42 And verily, whosoever shows patience and forgives that would truly be from the things recommended by Allah. 43
