The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ When the event befalleth - 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 abasing, exalting, 3 When the earth is shaken with a shock 4 And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms, 5 So that they become a scattered dust, 6 And ye are classes three. 7 Companions of the Right, what are the Companions of the Right? 8 Then those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) will be those of the left hand! 9 And those who surpassed have indeed excelled. 10 those are they brought nigh the Throne, 11 In the gardens of bliss. 12 A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam). 13 And a few from the latter. 14 upon close-wrought couches 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Round about them shall go youths never altering in age, 17 Cups and decanters, beakers full of sparkling wine, 18 They shall not be affected with headache thereby, nor shall they get exhausted, 19 they will also go about them with the fruits of which they may choose, 20 and the flesh of birds, as they desire. 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 like pearls preserved in their shells, 23 As reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin - 25 but only the saying: 'Peace, Peace' 26 The Companions of the Right 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 And clusters of banana plants. 29 and shade extended, 30 And water everflowing. 31 And fruit in plenty, 32 Neither ending nor forbidden. 33 And on couches or thrones, raised high. 34 Surely We have made them to grow into a (new) growth, 35 having resurrected them as virgins, 36 chastely amorous, 37 For the Companions of the Right Hand. 38
